MarkerBond 2006/2008 NTPEP Test Results

Two hundred Swareflex Globemarker raised pavement markers were installed on concrete and asphalt using Markerbond 1587 non-bituminous adhesive on October 24, 2006 on Interstate Highways 75 and 475 in Macon, Georgia.

The road surface temperature during the application was 38F, while the temperature of Markerbond was just 332F. Both of these temperatures were record breaking lows, suggesting pavement markers can be applied at much lower temperatures than previously thought.

During the evaluation period, the average daily traffic on the I-75 test deck was 67,590 vehicles with 17.8% heavy truck traffic. The average daily traffic on the I-475 test deck was 47,260 with 11% heavy truck traffic.

The test decks were evaluated bi-weekly November 2006 through April 2007. Ambient air temperature during this period dropped to as low as 16F, causing a marked failure in the pavement markers. A total of 13 markers were missing from the asphalt surface at the end of the evaluation period, however, Markerbond adhesive was still attached to the road surface in all cases.
